Hi Everyone,
Last night I went to see Laura on the first date of The Last Rose of Summer UK Tour in Lancaster.
It was a wonderful intimate concert in the lovely setting of Lancaster Priory, and the first concert I have been to where no microphones were used at all, the acoustics were fantastic and Laura was on top form, her voice as beautiful and as pure as ever.
Laura was accompanied by Patrick Hawes, who worked with her on the album and the excellent Raven Quartet. The set list was a mix of music from Laura's album, along with some of Patrick Hawes own work.
Here is the set list...
The Last Rose Of Summer
Lavenders Blue
Acesnsion (Written by Patrick Hawes, performed by Raven)
My Beloved Spake (From 'Towards The Light', written and performed by Patrick Hawes)
Stargazer (From 'Towards The Light', written and performed by Patrick Hawes)
Down By The Salley Gardens
Gloriette (Written and performed by Patrick Hawes, accompanied by Rachael Lander of Raven)
Skye Boat Song
The Ash Grove
INTERVAL
My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean
Waltz (From 'Towards The Light', written and performed by Patrick Hawes)
Sleep Song (From 'Towards The Light', written and performed by Patrick Hawes)
The Call (From Patrick Hawes 'The Call', performed by Laura)
Remember (From Patrick Hawes 'The Call', performed by Laura)
Let A Florid Music Praise (From Patrick Hawes 'The Call', performed by Laura)
After The Rain (Written by Patrick Hawes, Performed by Laura)
Drink To Me Only
Patrick Hawes work is brilliant and Laura was the perfect choice to help him perform some of it, her voice really doing the songs justice. His solo pieces were also excellent and along with songs from Laura's album made for a wonderful evening of music.
Raven were fantastic, I have their album and have seen them perform a number of times now, I always come away impressed. They have their own recital later this month in the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall and if I lived closer I would definitely be going along to that.
We were told beforehand we couldn't take photos so I have none during the concert, but I took a few of the venue and Laura also did a signing afterwards. Here are my photos....
