I may see you there John, just need to sort a few things out first but it seems quite simple on the train. I was supposed to be on holiday during this but that has been cancelled now so I have the date free. This concert is also the day before Laura's birthday Dazza

Well, where to begin with this one? I have never been to a concert quite like it. With the threat of a downpour all week I had come well prepared but as the start of the concert drew near things started to clear up and everything was set for an enjoyable evening. It soon became apparent that all was not well, they had stopped letting people in although we were already inside. An ambulance arrived to tend to a medical emergency with a member of the audience. The concert was delayed for 90 minutes which forced them to amend the programme with no interval, quite understandable in the circumstances. I am only going by memory so this may not be accurate, but this is the amended concert programme… The Barber of Seville: Overture – Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Rigoletto: La donna e mobile – James Edwards The Last Rose of Summer – Laura Wright The Lark Ascending – RPO & Clio Gould Brindisi – Laura Wright & James Edwards West Side Story: Balcony Scene (Tonight) – Laura Wright & James Edwards Danny Boy – Laura Wright Nessun Dorma – James Edwards Time To Say Goodbye – Laura Wright & James Edwards Not long after the concert started the heavens opened up as British Summertime decided to introduce himself, it was only a small stage and this forced a rearrangement of the orchestra as the string players had to move backwards to stop their expensive instruments getting wet. During this James Edwards led the audience into a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for Laura who is celebrating her birthday today (17th June) Despite the set backs, the music being performed was absolutely wonderful and of the highest quality. We were treated to The Barber Of Seville from the orchestra, and the beautiful Lark Ascending with a violin solo from Clio Gould being one of the highlights. Both Laura and James were superb and they performed a few duets together including Tonight from West Side Story, Brindisi & Time to Say Goodbye. Brindisi was absolutely stunning and probably the highlight of the concert for me! Laura finished her set with an absolutely beautiful rendition of Danny Boy before the finale of Time to Say Goodbye. Laura was absolutely stunning and it was different seeing her performing opera arias like Brindisi to her usual repertoire but she was fantastic and I think that her voice is quite suited to them. I would definitely like to hear more in the future, Laura said afterwards she enjoyed performing them too. I asked Laura earlier in the week if it would be possible to meet her and so after the concert, she spotted us and gestured us over to the side of the stage. It was so lovely to meet her again and we gave her the birthday card from everyone too which she loved. After a disappointing start under sad circumstances it turned out to be quite an enjoyable evening, I just hope that the poor individual who was taken to hospital turned out to be ok. We weren't able to take photos during the concert but here are a few from before. I didn't have the chance to take photos of Laura afterwards, but others did. Dazza

Thanks for your report Dazza. It was indeed a night to remember; sadly not all for good reasons. Although the concert was shortened and somewhat disrupted by the weather, we still enjoyed some wonderful music. Laura was of course the star of the show and her performance in the Brindisi duet was also the highlight for me. She was spectacular. Here are some of my photos Another view of the setting Laura with her card Some views of the spectacular firework display to end the evening
